Obituary for Mary Lou Beadle
Mary Lou Adam Beadle
June 26, 1928—June 9, 2016

Mary Lou Beadle, 87, of Roundup, passed away June 9, 2016, at Roundup Memorial Hospital.
Mary Lou was born June 26, 1928, in Roscoe, South Dakota. She graduated from Roscoe High School, attended Yankton College and the University of South Dakota, and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern Montana College in 1958. She taught for one year in Gillette, Wyoming, before moving to Roundup.

Mary Lou taught third and fourth grades at Roundup's Central School for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Teaching was her calling, and her students cared for her greatly. One of their favorite parts of her class was making puppets and putting on puppet shows. "She was my fourth grade teacher and I loved her dearly,” a former student said. “If she had favorites it never showed. She loved us all." Another former student said, "I think every student thought that they were her favorite! She was a sweet and gentle lady. She was one of the best teachers I ever had."

Mary Lou married Donald N. 'Bud' Beadle on June 21, 1953, in Roscoe. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Dixieland jazz festivals, visiting with family and friends, and goofing off together. They shared 50 loving and fun-filled years before Bud passed away. Mary Lou valued the Roundup community and supported many local organizations and efforts.

Mary Lou was a wonderful combination of classy and sassy. She was always up for a laugh and you couldn’t help but laugh with her. When asked if she had any children she would joke, “Oh yes, I had lots of them when I was teaching school, but they didn’t go home with me at night.” Upbeat, polite, gracious and generous, Mary Lou will be remembered as a special woman who made everyone else feel special in her presence.

Survivors include nephews Jay (Sharon) Eliasson, Gary (Phyllis) Eliasson of Roundup, Clive Adam, Dale (Kay) Adam, and Marlin Adam of Washington, cousins Israel Stoecker, Alice Bakken, and Virginia Anderson of Aberdeen, South Dakota, many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Beadle, her parents, August and Hilda Adam, her brother, Ervin Adam, and nephews Dean Adam and Donald J. Eliasson.
She shared a special relationship with Agnes Walker, her cousin-in-law. They took many trips together after Bud passed away – almost all of them included a stopover at Roscoe to check on her mother’s and father’s graves.

With love and respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Roundup’s Zion Lutheran Church. Interment of ashes will follow at Roundup Cemetery and a luncheon will be served afterward at the church for family and friends. Memorials may be made to Roundup Elementary School. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
