In Loving Memory of Steven Nolan Waller
February 20, 1954 – October 19 2025
Steven Nolan Waller, known to family and friends simply as Steve, was born in Kalispell, Montana, on February 20, 1954, to Ken Waller and Miriam (Batt-Waller) Britt. He grew up surrounded by a large and lively family that shaped his strong, good-hearted character. Steve had three older siblings—Lloyd Waller, Cynthia Waller, and Lynne (Waller) Cook—and two younger brothers, John Waller and Wayne Britt.
When Steve was four, the family moved to Roundup, Montana, where he attended Roundup schools through his sophomore year. Later, he moved to Seattle to work alongside his father, Ken, while finishing high school.
A true craftsman at heart, Steve spent most of his life working as a carpenter. His skill and dedication left a lasting mark on countless homes and projects throughout Montana and beyond. Earlier in life, he also worked as a butcher at Seitz and Bowers and in the oil fields before an injury led him back to his greatest passion—woodworking. He perfected his craft working with his father and Uncle Richard, becoming the talented and respected carpenter so many remember him as.
Steve’s hands were as skilled in his hobbies as they were in his trade. He loved fishing Montana’s streams, making custom knives, and riding motorcycles on long, open roads. He had a soft spot for Ford pickups, classic westerns, and the timeless tunes of the 1960s. His loyal pets—Buddy, Muff, and Missy Barker—were among his greatest companions, and he spoke of them often with warmth and pride.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Miriam; and his siblings Lloyd, Cynthia, and Wayne. He is survived by his children Kenny, Steve Jr., and twins Shawna and Shayna; his sister Lynne, brother John, and his faithful dog Missy Barker.
Steve is also survived by his close friend Keith Wagner, whose companionship and care meant the world to him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Keith for being there in Steve’s later years—helping, listening, and giving him space to be his witty, stubborn, and loveable self.
In honor of Steve’s memory, the family asks that you celebrate him in the way he would have wanted: plant a tree, cast a line into a clear Montana stream, and throw a few fat worms to the trout.
