Obituary for Myrtle Allyne Stensvsd

Myrtle A. Stensvad

Myrtle Stensvad went home to be with the Lord June 10, 2026.

She was born July 30, 1936 to Vern and Allyne Stevenson at the Musselshell Valley Hospital in Roundup, MT. She grew up in the little log house on the Big Bend of the Musselshell.

She attended all of her school years in Melstone, graduating in May of 1954. A few days later she married her high school sweetheart, Keith Stensvad, on June 5, 1954. They moved to the ranch North of Melstone where she lived her entire life. Keith and Myrtle were blessed with four children Gale, Baby Glen, Glenda, and Gena.

Myrtle loved her family and the ranch. Along with helping with the ranch work mom fed the “crew”: not less than 12 at the table every day at noon- threshing, haying, branding, or the feedlot crew depending on the time of year. She hosted every holiday and family gathering and never turned away providing a place to stay if needed. At least 35 kids and adults too lived in mom’s basement thru the years. Later in life she was known in the community for “Myrtle’s cookies”. Mom’s pride and joy was her beautiful yard and gardens. Everything she planted grew and multiplied and she enjoyed giving visitors a tour.

Myrtle belonged to the Melstone Bible Church serving on the church council as trustee and helping out with Women’s Fellowship. She had a strong faith and took one day at a time, not worrying about what the future would bring by trusting in the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, and her two sons Gale and Baby Glen.

She is survived by her sister Carole (Will) Ferch, daughter-in-law Bonnie Stensvad, daughters Gena Allen and Glenda O’Brien, and son in laws Steve O'Brien and Kelly Allen,

8 grandchildren, nine great grandchilden and two great great grand children.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stillwater Hospice for the excellent care they provided in Mom’s final months.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 27th at the Melstone Bible Church. Memorials may be made to the Melstone Bible Church or Melstone EMT’s.
