Obituary for Merritt Darrell Brewer
Darrell was born on Oct. 29, 1931 to Clyde and Elizabeth Zaharko Brewer. He passed away on Feb. 4, 2016 at the age of 84 surrounded by his family. He lived in Melstone, MT until he joined the Army in Dec. 1952. He was in the Korean War for 2 years and was very proud to be a veteran. Upon returning, he went to work for his dad at "C" Brewer Trucking in Roundup, MT. The business later became an oilfield service company and was incorporated; it is still in business to this day. Darrell was always involved in the community. He was a member of the city council, a county commissioner, a member of the airport board, hospital board, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. In his younger years he loved flying his Mooney airplane and our childhoods were filled with trips when he would pack all of us children and our one allotted tiny bag into the plane and off we would go. His other passion was his motorcycle. He loved being a member of the Goldwing and Rainmakers Motorcycle Clubs. When wintering in Arizona, he was a member of the Over the Hill Gang. He was still riding his motorcycle up until a few months ago when the cancer got more aggressive. He fought such a courageous battle with no complaints. Darrell enjoyed his family, golfing, playing cribbage, country music, mowing all the lawns in town that were a bit long, and of course riding his motorcycle. Darrell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita; his children, Suzanne (Keith) Larsen of Cody, WY; Diana (Marc) Crowley of Roundup, MT; Dan (Sheila) Brewer of Melstone, MT; Darla Brewer of Billings, MT and Carol (Sean) Lilliberg of Shepherd, MT, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Duane (Sharon) Brewer and sisters, Sharon (Harold) Anderson and Bev Ward. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Elizabeth; brother, Clyde Jr. and his wife LaVonne. He is also preceded in death by Joyce Brewer and Wayne Ward. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will only be a private family memorial service and interment of ashes at a later date. Donations can be made in memory to Riverstone Hospice of Billings, MT or the local charity of your choice. The family extends a special thank you to Sunflower Gardens Assisted Living and MaryAnn from Riverstone Hospice. His favorite bit of advice for all of us was, "Live and you will learn, dimes to dollars turn". We won't forget. "Rest in Peace Dad, you will always be missed." Wier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
