Obituary for Marguerite A. 'Mimi' A. Viig
Marguerite A. 'Mimi' Viig passed away at Roundup Memorial Hospital on October 21, 2015. Mimi was born on October 13, 1948 to Ben and Theodora Yates in Willows, CA. In 1961, the Yates family moved to Roundup. Mimi graduated from Roundup High School in 1966. Mimi married Edward Viig in San Diego, CA on May 1, 1970. Two years later they moved to Hawaii where Ed was stationed with the Navy. In 1973 they welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth. In 1978, after returning to Roundup, Mimi opened Julia's Shop, a craft store on Main Street. She enjoyed arts and crafts and held many painting and craft classes in the shop. Mimi was also an avid seamstress and loved to design and make patterns for her own clothes. Julia's Shop eventually grew to become a craft and variety store along with a screen printing business and later became a bookstore called The Book Mark. After closing her stores in 2008, Mimi enjoyed being active in her church. Her greatest joy was volunteering in the kitchen for Meals on Wheels. Mimi enjoyed spoiling her three grandchildren with her creative crafts and even wrote several books with them as the main characters. Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Ben F. Yates and Theodora A. Yates. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Josh) Jorgenson and her three grandchildren, Elijah, Jacob, and Hannah. A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church in Roundup on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
