Obituary for Linda Jean Godfrey

Linda (Lindy) Jean Godfrey, nee Burns

Linda (Lindy) Jean Godfrey, born on May 10th, 1956, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Dean and Nina Burns and the oldest of three siblings, with two brothers, Fred and Frank.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Nina, and her daughter Joy. On June 8th, 1974, she married the love of her life, Roger, and together they had four sons: Justin, Cole, Landon, and Rhett, and one daughter. Linda was not only a dedicated wife and mother but also a second mother to many, extending her love and care to countless lives.

Her legacy lives on through her five granddaughters: Karleigh, Lorien, Quinn, Isla, and Avery, and three grandsons: Thaiden, Owen, and Dean. The last two grandchildren, Dean and Avery, were born in time for Linda to hold and love.

Linda's life was characterized by significant contributions and unwavering love. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated Stretch’s. After selling Stretch’s, Linda transitioned to working at Roundup Public Schools from October 1996 until 2016, when she was no longer able. In her various roles, she left a lasting impact of fun and positivity on numerous students and coworkers.

In October 2016, Linda was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, and despite the challenges, she faced the disease with a positive outlook. Alzheimer's may have stripped away her abilities, but it couldn't touch her vibrant personality and the love she embodied.

Linda was a devout Catholic and an active member of the St. Benedict community. She served as a CCD teacher and found solace in reading and praying from the Bible daily with her husband until she lost the ability.

Her adventurous spirit took her on a memorable trip to Rome with her husband and friends. Linda had a passion for music, always singing and dancing, and was a proud member of the choir at St. Benedict.

In her retirement, Linda enjoyed roller coasters, fishing, camping, and side x sides. She embraced the role of the only girl in a household with a husband and four boys and was grateful for her three wonderful daughters-in-law.

Linda's American dream romance began with marrying her high school sweetheart, Roger. Their love story included raising many children and forming close bonds with their daughters-in-law. Notably, one son married the daughter of Linda's childhood best friend, and she became her best friend too, providing care and support in Linda's later years.

Linda made friends easily and cherished her lifelong friendships, where she could joyfully brag about her boys.

A vigil in memory of Linda will be held on Friday, January 26th, at 6:00 P.M., followed by a Funeral Service on Saturday, January 27th, at 11:00 A.M. Both events will take place at St. Benedict's Church. The funeral procession will follow the mass, concluding with a luncheon hosted by the Catholic Women in the church basement.

Memorial donations can be made to Stillwater Hospice. Linda's last months were able to be spent at home because of their love, care, and support.
