Obituary for Larry Edward Wacker
Larry Edward Wacker, a kind and gentle man, was born March 19, 1940 in Roundup MT to Edd and Fern Coles Wacker. He died peacefully on March 30, 2016 at Sunflower Gardens Assisted Living in Roundup.
Larry was a graduate of Winnett High School and Eastern Montana College. He taught high school English in Geraldine for a few years as well as directing many successful school plays there. During the summers he was an accompanist and actor with the Virginia City Players. Larry played the piano beautifully; he and his Dad sang and played for many dances and had quite a following. The allure of Hawaii called to him and he left the mainland to teach English to the Hawaiian natives. This was not to be for Larry as he was a very organized and energetic individual and he found his students to be too laid back. He left teaching and started working at a high-end hotel in Oahu. In Hawaii, he met the love of his life, Jan McCurry. They were married and to this union was born Melani in 1971. They left Hawaii to return to Jan’s hometown of Santa Ana CA. Here Larry began working for the Orange County court system as a Court Stenographer. He and Jan later were divorced. He continued working for Orange County until his parents became ill and he put his life on hold to go to Oregon to care for them. When they both passed away, Larry continued to live in Oregon.
In July of 2015, he became ill and wanted to come back to Roundup. His cousins rallied together and made sure that happened. Larry went into assisted living and had a good quality of life until a fall in February broke his hip. He was never able to fully recover from that fall.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Melani of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, his ex-wife, Jan, also of Kailua-Kona, his aunt Marian Pinkham of Miles City, his aunt Florence Wacker of Roundup, his uncle Harold Hougardy of Santa Maria, CA and his many cousins who adored him. Cremation has taken place and services are planned for a future date. Wier Funeral Home of Roundup is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Sunflower Gardens Assisted Living or to a charity of choice.
