Obituary for Karen Kay Yates
Our beloved loving mother, wife, grandma, great grandma, and best friend passed away January 17, 2018, at the age of 75. She was born October 18, 1942 in Torrance, California to Harold and Vivian Frick.
She was their only child. Karen moved between the farm in Missouri to the shipyards in California with her parents in her younger years. She had to beg her dad to stay in one spot her high school years, so she could have the same friends to graduate with. She got her wish, she still talks to those friends. She graduated in Palmdale, California in 1960. After graduation, they moved back to the farm in Seymour, Missouri. This is where she met the shy guy down the road. He finally got the guts to ask the pretty girl out! She married that shy guy, Robert Yates, on August 19, 1961. They were married 57 years. In 1962, Mark came, then Chris in 1963. In 1965, the family had a major setback, a house fire that badly burned Robert. While he was recovering, she grew with their third child. Kimberly came two months after Robert was released from the hospital. The family moved to Montana, and never left. She helped Robert with his welding business. Karen had a green house for many years, selling tomatoes and peppers to the whole community. She loved the outdoors, always had a hell’s acre garden, beautiful flowers, as was always doing some kind of crafts. She was also in quilting club. Karen was very much loved, and she loved greatly.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, and Robert’s parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert, children: Mark (Debra) Christopher, and Kimberly (Jay); grandchildren: Casey (Caressa), Janelle (James), Reid and great grandchild: Athena.
Funeral Services for Karen K. Yates will be held, 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Roundup, Burial to follow at the Roundup City Cemetery. There will be a visitation scheduled at Wier’s Funeral Chapel 5:00 to 9:00 pm, Monday, January 22, 2018.
