A blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy named Justin Sid Kincheloe joined his parents, Art and Yvonne, and four siblings on July 2, 1988. He proudly wore the “baby of the family” title until his untimely death on April 29, 2025. From a young age, it was evident Justin was destined to march to the beat of his own drum.
Justin grew up in the Rattlesnake Buttes and along the bank of the Musselshell River near Melstone. He loved the ranch life from a young age and always had a tender heart for animals, a trait he inherited from his mom. Justin was a standout athlete in football and basketball. As a Custer-Melstone Cougar, Justin earned the accolade of a 6-man All-American center. In 2006, Justin was a key member of the Melstone Broncs’ state-champion basketball team. The championship game is remembered as one of the most exciting games Rocky Erickson ever called.
In adulthood, Justin enjoyed working outside whether on the back of a horse, on the fence line, walking feedlot pens, watching his beloved Brahmas, or chicken ranching. Justin was the first phone call when anyone needed to brand, ship, or work bucking bulls due to his ranchin’ expertise. Eventually, he donned his blue and gold again but as Coach Kincheloe. It is a job he took seriously – one would be hard-pressed to find anyone who can rattle off 4C or 5C stats like Justin. He touched the lives of the kids he coached with his encouraging words and calm demeanor. From Little Bronc to the occasional opportunity to take over for Coach Grebe, Justin was called to coach.
Outside of ranching and the gym, Justin’s world revolved around his family. In 2015, he met Mell(vin) which is when he took on his most beloved job- fatherhood. Colt and Kavann were Justin’s world and he took them everywhere. From the gym to the feedlot to playing card games with Grandpa Art, the boys were always by his side. In the summers, Justin moonlighted as a youth rodeo dad and spent many nights fishing with the boys.
There are too many things to say about Justin and not enough space. Some of his favorite things, outside of his teams and family, include Frito salad, pumpkin pie, Indian Relay Races, reading absolutely anything, Nicholas Sparks’ movies, foot races (especially when boots or whiskey were on the line), and keeping life together with bailing twine and ether.
Justin left a lasting mark on everyone he met and his death leaves a vacancy that will never be filled. He will be remembered for his quick wit, fast comebacks, easy smile, and photographic memory. One thing about it, Justin could always be counted on for a good laugh, good conversation, and with a little twist of the arm, a good time. He believed a stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.
He is survived by Mell, Colt, and Kavann. His father, Art, and his siblings: Buddy, Billy (Coleen), Hope (Will), and Art; adopted siblings: Jeff, Nils, Marcelo, Kendal, TyRaa, and TyLee. His nieces and nephews: Christy, Cassidy (Josh), Michael (Brennah), Brekken, Carter, Kyler, Calen, Broderick, and Kazlee along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mom, Yvonne, grandparents Wendell & Vi and Edith & Bud, in-laws Cora and Trent, Uncle Allan, and loyal dog Spud.
Justin will be celebrated on May 7th at 2 pm at the Melstone High School. To honor Justin, please wear blue and gold. The family will receive friends at Wier Funeral Home in Roundup on May 6th from 5 to 8 pm.
