Josephine Stockhouse Butterfield passed away on November 22, 2019, at Roundup Memorial
Nursing Home. She was 85.
Jo was born on January 22,1934, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to parents Axel Stockhouse and Esther
Barnes Stockhouse, the middle of three children. She attended Sheridan schools until marrying
Sonny Butterfield on July 28, 1952. They lived and ranched in Montana and Kansas until settling on
the Pronghorn Ranch near Roundup, Montana in 1965. They were married for 67 years until his
death in March of this year. Four daughters were born of the marriage, all of which survive; Tina
Shields, of Winston Salem, NC, Teresa Fauth (Brad) of Roundup, Twyla Lister (Jim), of Yuma, AZ,
and Justine Walker, Temecula, CA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 12 greatgrandchildren,
and a sister, Carolyn Brennan, of Sheridan, Wyo. She is preceded in death by her
husband, her parents, and her brother, Axel.
A visitation is planned for Monday, November 25, 10 a.m. to noon at Wier’s Funeral Home in
Roundup. No formal service is planned. Memorial Donations can be made in honor of Jo to Roundup
Memorial Nursing Home.
