Obituary for Jeanette Frances Hofer
Jeanette Frances (Brown) Hofer, 82, of Lavina, MT, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Aspen Meadows Retirement Community in Billings. She was born on November 18, 1934 in Chicago Heights, IL. She married Vernon Lee Hofer, Sr. on April 3, 1954. They raised 3 children on a small farm in Monee, IL before following a dream of moving to a small ranch in Lavina in 1980, where they raised horses and other animals. She enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, and later a grandmother.
She also worked at the Lavina School in the Foster Grandparent Program to help the children with their reading, spelling and arithmetic. She received an award from President Obama for her work as a Foster Grandparent. The award was presented to her by the Governor of Montana.
She had a strong faith in God that she instilled in her family, having been raised in the Catholic Church. Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Vernon Lee Hofer, Sr., her parents, Frank Brown, Sr. and Emma, and her brothers, Frank Brown, Jr., and Robert Brown. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Brown; and her children and grandchildren: Laura Lynn Ruhbeck, husband Ralph, their son Andrew and his wife Stephanie; Vernon Lee Hofer, Jr. and wife Christine; and Charles Edward Hofer, wife Kathy, and daughters, Britney and Lori.
