Obituary for James D. Wilson

James (Jimmy) D. Wilson passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 26, 2024 from leukemia.

Jimmy was born on February 14, 1963 to Jim and Terry (Kanta) Wilson. He grew up on the family ranch south of Melstone. He loved spending time with his grandparents, rodeoing, and basketball. He graduated from Melstone Public Schools in 1981. Jimmy went to work in the oilfield after graduation where he eventually was able to start his own contract pumping business, which he would often say that Dick Mihalovich was instrumental in. He was ranching and still working in the oilfield at the time of his death.

In 1985 he married Patti Brewer and they had two boys, Tyler and Kyle. In 1997 they moved back out to his grandpa’s ranch, which was always a dream of his. He was so proud of his boys. He loved coaching Jr. High/Assistant basketball often traveling back and forth on his own to make sure he was able to check his oil wells and the ranch, without missing a game. He believed in hard work, was meticulous, humble, and always willing to help anyone in need.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patti, sons Tyler (Marissa) and new grandson Parker Wilson, Kyle (Maddy) Wilson, brother Billy (Jill) Wilson, sister Amy Wilson, mother Terry Wilson, special aunt Annie Kanta and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Wilson Jr., sister Jackie Newman, grandparents Jim & Marie Wilson and Frank & Susan Kanta.

Per Jimmy’s wishes there will not be any formal services. Cremation has taken place with his ashes being spread on the family ranch at a later date.
