Obituary for Irene June Bendickson
Irene June Hanson-Bendickson passed away September 25, 2018 at the Roundup Memorial Nursing Home in Roundup, MT at the age of 87 years and 4 months.

Irene June Hanson was born on June 2, 1931 in Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN at the family farm to the late Knute & Gladys (Kolstrand) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Irene was blessed with 12 children. She never tired or quit taking care of her many children. No matter how busy she was with her own life and responsibilities, she encouraged visits with her siblings and their children creating lifelong bonds with her nieces and nephews and all the cousins with each other.

Irene was united in marriage to Clyde Bendickson on September 16, 1970. The couple and children made their home on the farm outside of Oklee, MN for several years. In 1977 the family moved to Lavina, MT where later they fullfilled their dream of building their own log cabin in Montana.

Irene loved to write letters to family and friends. She was truly the family connector. Irene made many quilts over her lifetime. She gifted them to many and once made the local news when she donated 15 small quilts for adoption packs for kids.

Irene worked hard all her life at various jobs. The potato fields of North Dakota as a young teen, a milk cow, beef cattle & sheep farmer. She worked in the fields putting up hay & crops; a quilter in a factory; a house painter; panel cast worker and lastly as a Nurses Aid for 16 years in the Nursing home where she spent her final 5 years. Irene never complained of the many trials and losses she faced in her life. She chose to speak of her grandkids or the beautiful flowers and many gardens she grew, or the latest news from her over 30 letter writing friends and family. She was the most happy when she was doing for others, whether it was making food for visitors or baking bread and sending some home with her children. In her later years she put together many puzzles with Clyde. They would glue, frame and give them away. Irene chose to keep active in her retirement and found solace in mowing over 5 acres around her property on a riding lawn mower. She kept that up well into her 80's.

Irene was a very kind and compassionate woman who will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who ever knew her. Blessed be her memory.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings; Two daughters – Yvonne and Patty and 5 grandchildren – Shawn, Tina, Amber, Ryan and Lara.

Irene is survived by her husband, Clyde Bendickson of Lavina, MT; children, Karen (Kevin) Good of Trail, MN; Ramona (Michael) Sweeney of Sioux City, IA; Quinten (Cathy) Good of Trail, MN; Leona Culkins of Omaha, NE; Roger (Lori) Good of Gully, MN; Valerie (Ron) Free of Billings, MT; Kirk (Natalie) Good of Palmer, Alaska; Bonnie (Charlton) Harris of Forest Grove, OR; Dawn (Brandon) Smith of Forest Grove, OR and Diane (Steve) Collins of Nebraska City, NE. Irene has 32 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren.

A special thank you from the family to Roundup Memorial Nursing Home – Judy and all the staff for the excellent care and friendship they shared with Irene.
