Obituary for Dolores Ann Kombol
Dolores Ann (Murray) Kombol

Dolores Ann Kombol, 87, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 in Roundup, MT.

Dolores was born June 1, 1930 in Big Timber, MT to Harry and Maude Murray. She joined older brother Don; the family later added her sisters Vonnie, Mavis “Pete”, and brother Harry Jr. “Ferdie”. She grew up on the family ranch on Otter Creek. Throughout her life she was very fond of sharing memorable experiences of her childhood, especially running the 5’ sickle and buck rake with a team of horses, riding her horse to school in town, showing animals in 4-H, and trailing sheep up to Sweet Grass Creek to her Grandpa Olson’s place where they spent weekends herding sheep.

In the summer of 1946 she met Joe Kombol, who was in the area working on the Hathaway ranch, at a local farm Bureau gathering. Although grandma recalls several other young gals trying to catch Joe’s eye, he asked her to dance and a courtship soon followed. They were married shortly thereafter in Livingston, MT on March 21, 1947. Their early adventures led them to ranch work on the Tongue River and then back to Joe’s family ranch in 1948 where Joe worked at the neighboring Pronghorn Ranch. In November of 1948 they were blessed with their first child, Vicki. This started their next stage in life in which they added Peggy, Aretta, Terry, Kim, Kris, and niece Tamie.

Family and ranch work took up most of her time but she was also very devoted to several other interests, including her and Joe being a founding member of the Lake Mason Grazing District Association, Roundup Ridge Riders, and being a local and state 4-H leader. She was very honored to be inducted into the Montana 4-H Foundation Hall of Fame in 1999. Other hobbies included traveling across the country to visit family, gardening, bowling, rodeo, crocheting, card games with family and friends, and sewing. Dolores was an excellent seamstress who made numerous wedding dresses and clothes throughout her life.

Grandma was a very independent woman who chose to live on the ranch for close to seventy years up until health reasons forced her to move to town in the last month of her life. She was happiest at her own home that Joe and her built and raised their family in.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Maude Murray, sisters Vonnie Hakes and Mavis Jarrett, brothers Don and Ferdie Murray, husband Joe Kombol, daughter Peggy Stephenson, and grandson Raif Coe. She is survived by her children Vicki Kombol of Roundup, Rett (Wally) Papez of Bridger, Terry (Cathy) Kombol of Roundup, Kim (Don) DeVincent of Bridger, Kris Corbett of Missoula, son in law Steve Stephenson of Sheridan, Wyoming, niece Tamie (Rick) Kuckler of Roundup, 13 grandchildren, and 21 great grand children.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 4th at Wier Funeral Home with reception to follow at Masonic Hall.

Special thanks to Brynn Bixby and the staff of Roundup Memorial Hospital for the special care she received the past few years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joe and Dolores Kombol Memorial Fund.
