Obituary for Alice Johnson Spranger
Alice Johnson Spranger

Alice Johnson Spranger, 89, of Roundup, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.
She was born a true coal miner’s daughter on Aug. 24, 1927, to Lily and William Dodds. She was the fifth of six children born to the Dodds family. She attended Roundup schools, and graduated in 1946. That same year she married Glenn Johnson and from that union two daughters were born, Nancy and Sally.
She was a stay-at-home mother, not only for her two girls, but also the neighborhood gang. As the girls grew and left home to start their lives, she began a career in public service at the Musselshell County Courthouse in the Treasurer’s office. After several years of service, she ran for election for the Clerk of District Court. She served two terms until retirement.
Alice was an elegant and gracious lady admired by everyone that knew her. She blessed various occasions with her beautiful singing voice. Her love for Christ was lifelong, singing his praises and rejoicing in his glory with a personal relationship with her Savior.
In 1993, she became acquainted with an old friend, Andy Spranger, and their lifelong love began. Together they shared many adventures and she gained three stepsons, Doug, Paul and Mark Spranger. They had an unwavering commitment to each other, and she is now finally reunited with her beloved Andy.
Also preceding her in death are her four siblings, Irving, Jim, Ray and Lillian, son-in-law Terry, stepson Mark, her first husband Glenn, as well as her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Etta Petersen, her daughters Nancy (Bob) Barber, and Sally Murphree; sister-in-law Pat Dodds and Unice Dodds, her step-sons Paul (Diane), and Doug (Carol) Spranger, eight grandchildren: Michael Murphree, Sonya Bastow, Terra Todd, Lucinda Birdwell, Lisa Sanders, Renee Messimer, Angela Kwasney, Teree Murphree; great-grandchildren Christopher, Aaron, Jonah, Naomi, Asia, Alyson, Grayden, Jesse, Bradley, Autumn and Andy’s grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was tireless in support of her family and the betterment of their lives.
It broke our hearts to lose you, our mom and Granny, but you did not go alone. Part of us went with you the day God called you home. We will all miss you, but know we are better because of you.
A memorial for Alice will be held in the spring.
